Transcribe Any Audio or Video File to Searchable Text
Beyond live streams, LiveScript now transcribes the files you already have. Drop in a recording — meeting, podcast, interview, lecture, or video — and get back a fully searchable, timestamped transcript with click-to-seek playback.
Free plan available. No credit card required. Also works on live YouTube and Twitch streams.
How it works
Three steps. Drop a file and come back to a transcript.
- 1
Drag and drop your audio or video file
Open the Upload page and drop in any audio or video file, or click to choose one. LiveScript extracts the audio automatically — you don't need to convert video to audio first.
- 2
We extract the audio and transcribe it
The file is processed in the background: audio is extracted, then transcribed with timestamps. The status updates live from queued to extracting to transcribing to ready.
- 3
Search, scrub, and export the transcript
Open the finished upload to read the full transcript, search it, click any line to jump the audio player to that exact moment, and export it.
What you get
Audio and video files
mp4, mov, mkv, webm, mp3, m4a, wav, flac and more. We extract the audio from video automatically.
Click-to-seek playback
Every line is timestamped. Click any line to jump the built-in audio player to that exact moment.
Full transcript search
Filter the entire transcript by any word or phrase to find the moment you need instantly.
Multilingual mode
English by default for top accuracy, or transcribe Spanish, French, German, and mixed-language audio.
Export your transcript
Take the finished transcript into your editor, captioning workflow, or archive.
Big files welcome
Up to 200 MB on the free plan and 5 GB on paid — enough for multi-hour recordings.
What people transcribe
Anything with speech you'd rather read and search than scrub through.
Meetings and calls
Turn a recorded call or meeting into a searchable record you can quote from, without rewatching the whole thing.
Podcasts and interviews
Get a clean transcript for show notes, pull-quotes, blog posts, and accessibility.
Lectures and webinars
Make hours of recorded talks searchable so you can find the one explanation you need.
Video content
Transcribe your own uploads for captions, repurposing into articles, or SEO.
One tool for live streams and your own files
LiveScript started as the fastest way to get a real-time transcript of a live stream. Upload transcription brings the same engine to the recordings you already have — and uploads share the same monthly minute pool as the live API, so there's nothing extra to buy.
With LiveScript uploads
- Drop a video file in directly — no audio extraction step
- Timestamped transcript with click-to-seek playback
- Search and export the result
- Shares your existing minute pool
Typical one-off transcribers
- Separate tool from your live workflow
- Often no in-page player to scrub by line
- Per-file pricing or separate credits
- Video must be converted to audio first
Frequently asked questions
What audio and video formats can I upload?+
LiveScript accepts the common audio and video formats: mp4, mov, mkv, webm, avi, m4v, flv, wmv, mp3, m4a, wav, aac, flac, ogg, oga, opus, and wma. We extract the audio automatically, so you can drop in a video file and get a transcript of the speech without converting it first.
How large a file can I upload?+
Free accounts can upload files up to 200 MB each. Pro and Day Pass accounts can upload files up to 5 GB each, which covers multi-hour recordings and high-bitrate video.
How does upload transcription get billed?+
Uploads draw from the same monthly minute pool as the live transcript API. The Day Pass includes about 1,000 minutes and Pro includes about 10,000 minutes per period, and top-up packs (500 / 1,500 / 5,000 minutes) stack on top. Free accounts get a starter pool of minutes to try it. You're only charged for the duration of audio actually transcribed.
How accurate is the transcript?+
Uploads are transcribed with the same speech-to-text engine that powers our real-time live transcripts, tuned for clean recorded audio. Clear single-speaker recordings are highly accurate; heavy background noise or overlapping speakers reduce accuracy, as with any transcription tool.
Can I transcribe a file in another language?+
Yes. Multilingual mode handles Spanish, French, German, and many other languages, including recordings that mix languages. English-only mode gives the highest accuracy for English-only audio.
Can I download or export the transcript?+
Yes. Open a completed upload to read the timestamped transcript, click any line to scrub the built-in audio player to that moment, and export the transcript for use in editors, captioning tools, or your own archive.
How long are my files and transcripts kept?+
Your transcript stays in your account so you can search and revisit it. The uploaded audio file itself is automatically purged after a retention window (30 days by default) to save space — the transcript remains available after the audio is removed.
Is my upload private?+
Uploads are private to your account by default. You can optionally generate a share link for an individual upload if you want to send the transcript and audio to someone else; otherwise no one else can access it.
